Kevin J. Hanley founded SCIS and was Director until his untimely death in 2008.  He was born in Ireland and held an honours degree in English and Philosophy from the National University of Ireland. He was awarded a post-graduate Diploma in Education conferred from the same university.

Mr Hanley taught at both Primary and Secondary levels in Ireland, Canada, Zambia, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Mexico. He regarded Bolivia as his home and combined his passion for education with a deep interest in Bolivian culture and history.

In accordance with his wishes, some of Mr. Hanley's ashes rest in the grounds of the school he built.

His wife and family, together with teachers and students uphold his intent to provide English medium education of an international standard.  Together they maintain Santa Cruz International School as the best school in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
